SUMMER 2011 - ALBERT HERRING

Shadwell are pleased to announce our summer plans - performances of a brand-new production of Britten’s ALBERT HERRING…

Cast made up of a mix of the country’s most talented young singers and a star-studded orchestra to be conducted by Christopher Stark.

Following continued sell-out runs and critical success at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Shadwell Opera are bringing their production around festivals, villages and towns across the country. This will be no classical production: expect one hundred years of light hearted village battle between virtue and vice, progress and tradition, decorum and drunkenness. And within this, a poor and chaste youth, Albert, struggling to assert himself and find his place in the world as he is forced by the local grandees into the dubitable honour of May King (in the absence of a suitable candidate for May Queen). Added to this, the production will also stage Albert’s dreams in the musical interludes, creating an interpretation rarely attempted. So whether you want something fun to pass a summer evening with comedy and cakes, simply enjoy delicious music, or want to engage with a serious piece of theatre, Shadwell Opera’s production of Albert Herring will have it for you. Come and join in the May Feast!!!
